Malcolm X was a pioneer in so many ways. He did more for more integration in the United States than most. One of his most famous quotes is the focal point for today’s post:
“If you don’t stand for something, you will fall for everything.”
What profound truth in this statement…
When it comes to second chances, there is no question you have to be flexible. Whatever you tried previously did not work, which is why you have your second chance to begin with. The destination is what needs to be unshakable. The path by which you get there can and should be adjusted early and often. While the path must change, the destination must remain rock solid. Whatever it is you are chasing, pursue with fierce tenacity. Do as Malcolm X advised…”stand for something” and that something is your dream, your vision, your life-long goal.
Remember, you get to decide where you’re going and who you are going to bring along. You need regular input along the way but ultimately the destination is up to you. You have the final word in all crucial matters. Resist the urge to second guess yourself. Resist the desire to flake out in the face of uncertainty. Fix your focus and stand your ground; if you don’t there are too many distractions (that are perfectly rational) that will prevent you from getting there.
Stand for 1 thing and 1 thing only…better to be a master of one that a jack of all trades. Better to have spent your entire life chasing the culmination of one thing that to fall for every little thing that carries no relevance in your life. You were created for a purpose, not perfection. Focus on something (one thing if necessary) YOUR THING….and forget the rest.
