Christmas has come and gone but New Year’s Eve is right around the corner! I trust that you enjoyed your week and treasured the time you might have spent with your loved ones. Purpose is such a powerful concept. After all, what is life without purpose? I often find myself losing precious perspective making mountains out of molehills. More often than not, I think that my purpose matters more than it actually does. I care too much about what others think, I measure my progress in terms of dollars and cents and I compare myself against others…
Sound at all familiar???
It’s hard enough to find your purpose and stay committed without wondering how you stack up against others trying to do the same. Competition is a great motivator but a VERY poor purpose….
Competition can get you out of the bed early in the morning.
Competition can give you that extra push to exceed your deadline.
Competition can give you the desire to constantly be “sharpening you saw.”
COMPETITION CANNOT TELL YOU WHEN ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.
I implore you to decide ahead of time exactly what you intend to accomplish with your purpose. If you never take the time to decide how much is enough, you will never get there. At the heart of the human spirit is the attitude “if some is good, more is better.” You will have the tendency to over-do it with your new found purpose, trust me I have been there more times than I would like to admit! A large part of pursuing your purpose is planning with the end in mind.
Take the time NOW to plan the pursuit of your purpose and define ENOUGH!
