It truly amazes me that so much anxiety is created as a result of “potential weather conditions??” I took this photo the day before Ironman Coeur d’Alene not more than 100 yards from “Hot Corner” aka transition area.
Here’s the deal when it comes to weather and endurance racing (and forgive me for being so direct) IT IS WHAT IT IS AND IT IS THE SAME FOR EVERYONE RACING!
I would highly recommend that you spend your precious energy worrying about things that you can actually control! Weather is going to happen, there is no way around it. Please do not let this affect your mental faculties…you cannot afford it, TRUST ME!
You have worked very hard to prepare for your race. Think about the countless hours over the last several months; you know what I’m talking about! The weather has the potential to change at any given moment. This is a variable that you have no control over WHATSOEVER….
SURE, RAIN SUCKS….CHOPPY WATER IS NOT FUN….GALE FORCE WINDS ON THE BIKE ARE A BUMMER….AND THE BLAZING SUN IS MOST CERTAINLY NOT A BLESSING ON THE RUN!
In summary, whether the weather is good, bad or indifferent…you need to focus your energy on the things that you CAN control and surrender to whatever the weather may be!
