Are you effective? Well, are you efficient? “E-squared” is the perfect combination of the 2, so which one (or two) are you?
A few more more questions to further stimulate your introspection…
“Are you doing things right? OR…
“Are you doing the right things?”
Think about that for moment, particularly the difference of focus. By now, you are well adept at swimming, cycling and running. If you have completed a 70.3 or full Ironman distance race your ability to perform all 3 sports is certainly not in question. BUT, are you swimming, cycling and running effectively and efficiently?
From my own personal experience, I know that swim sets and riding hills are productive. I understand that running fartleks on the track will make me a better runner. These types of workouts are EFFECTIVE.
On the flipside, if my time is limited and I only have an hour to swim..I would rather do a straight endurance set. If its Saturday morning and I’m on a group ride, I might be tempted to ride with the pack when I know that riding on the front of the pace line would be more beneficial. And since I love to run, I would much rather go out on a long adventure at a steady pace then perform a track workout. My workouts are efficient in that I am getting them done, but they might be not be as effective as I would like them to be.
Can you relate? Any thoughts on this subject matter? I would love to hear your feedback.
