If I were to ask you who your favorite coach or teacher was, could you tell me without hesitation? What did you like about this person? I am guessing that he or she was consistent in their interactions with you. I suspect that he or she challenged you. I believe that this person also loved you.

I remember my favorite coach. He believed in me and saw something in me that I could not see myself. He put my interests ahead of his own and dedicated himself to making me great. My favorite coach was not only a coach, he was a champion! I will remember him for the rest of my life and pray that my own children will be as fortunate to have such a great coach in their future!
A great coach discovers, develops and directs. A great coach is devoted and disciplined.

In reflecting on my relationship with my champion coach, I came up with the following description of a great coach: (tell me if you agree)

A great coach discovers, develops and directs talent due to discipline and dedication with a desire for greatness. A lot of “d” words I know but felt it made the definition more memorable.

The purpose of this post with incorporating “change” is to get you to think about the talent you now possess. If you are honest, it might be that you feel you are the reason for your own success. Maybe I’m wrong and I hope I am, but I know I need (more often than not) to shift focus of my success away from me and towards the great coaches of my past and present.
