Start at Your Finish Line

Do you know where you’re going?

Did you wake up this morning knowing exactly what you wanted to accomplish today?

Have you ever thought about your intentions? What motivates you and why? This is difficult I know, but it’s something that needs to be addressed sooner rather than later.

What would it feel like to start your day with the end in mind? We do this subconsciously when it comes to travel. We know the places we want to go and plan accordingly. Each summer we plan a trip to the beach and prepare for warm weather and water play. Each fall or winter we may plan a trip to go skiing or visit distant relatives and we prepare.

My question (and often to myself) is why don’t I plan my week with the same vigor I plan my trip? Ultimately the destination of life is our purpose. I once heard New York Times best selling author and speaker John Maxwell say: “The 2 most important days in a person’s life are the day they are born and the day they discover why.”

I’d like to issue a little challenge for this first official week of summer! Start with the end in mind. Picture the final hour of each day this week and work backwards. What does it look like and what will you have to change in your routine to make sure it happens?
