Mayday, Mayday!!

Welcome to the month of May. Summer is upon us! If you have not dusted off your bike from the long, cold winter it is now officially time to do so. If your running shoes are no where to be found, start looking. If the thought of jumping back into the pool is about as appealing as re-filing your tax return…

“Mayday, Mayday I’M A FAIR WEATHER ATHLETE AND MY EXCUSES TO GET MOVING AGAIN ARE DYING BY THE HOUR..Mayday, Mayday!”

Now I am certain that this is not you, so just imagine a friend who is in this particular situation at the specific time. Is there really such thing as “emergency training?” Can we cram for a race the week before like we used to do for a test the night before? Come on, seriously…

Excuses are nothing more than a misuse of time. Think about that for a fraction of a second. Its time to swim..what’s your first thought? Its Saturday morning and your long ride is waiting for you. What is string in your mind? The body will do what the mind says. If your mind has grown accustomed to making excuses, your body will follow its lead. Excuses in January and February are much different than excuses now. You no longer have the luxury of blaming the weather or the daylight. It’s May my friend, the weather is beautiful and the sun is there…

You are going to have to build back up your base. The earlier you start the faster you’ll arrive. Your races this year will not wait and don’t count on your competition to let up either. The fact of the matter is that May is here.

Are you screaming “Mayday or Raceday?”
