It’s hot outside! By now, you are well aware of the importance of hydration. If you are competing at any level you have experienced the heat of the summer. But in reality, even if you have not so much as completed a 1 mile run, you still know that hydration is essential to performance.

For that matter, let’s consider another important addition to your workout routine at this time of year. Do you have a puppy dog that is full of energy? I have an 8 year old boxer who is just as much a puppy as he was 5 years ago. Each morning, my wife or I walk him 3 miles. We’ve been engaged in this practice his entire life. Chief expects it and there is no way we would skip his morning ritual. But, just as we are susceptible to heat exhaustion and dehydration during the summer months, so too are our puppy dogs!

This past week, we were out on his walk and I was able to capture this video. I couldn’t help myself but to share as it was one of the funniest things I have ever seen Chief do. Dogs really are fantastic companions and Chief is no exception. I thought this very act would serve as an excellent post to remind us of the importance of drinking to stay hydrated during exercise in the hot months.

Take it from Chief, DRINK, DRINK, DRINK (and then drink some more!)
