If it ain’t broke…

This post is rated Sprinters, Olympians and Ironman.

And please don’t finish this phrase with “then don’t fix it.” I would like to challenge this age-old saying with “If ain’t broke, it will be!” Or, “If ain’t broke, then break it and find a better way to put it back together!”

Here’s a thought….just because what you are doing now works, doesn’t mean you can’t make it better. Think about the evolution of technology and how various innovations in the last 100 years have dramatically improved the quality of life. It wasn’t that fax machines weren’t capable of transmitting data across long distances, but that scanning technology made it more efficient. It wasn’t that libraries filled with card catalogs and books failed to provide research opportunities, but that the internet made it much more convenient.

What is working perfectly fine in your life right now? This may be a bit tough because we normally don’t see a need to change unless something goes wrong. How can you make your “good” even better? What could you add or take away from your daily routine that would make you better today? What would it look to do an “EXTREME MAKEOVER” on your daily routine? How would you know where to begin? Is there anyone that has achieved a certain level of success or notoriety that could help spark your brainpower? I know this rationale sounds absurd, but I am trying to strike a nerve by getting you to dig deeper than what looks like success on the surface.

There may be nothing wrong with the current trajectory of your life, but is everything right…that is the question. Are you living your life simply to survive or are you seeking the daily thrill of thriving. I am convinced that we were not created to live in a comfort zone. In the absence of change, growth is impossible. So you may still want to adhere to the “if it ain’t broke, then don’t fix it” mentality, but let me challenge your view of “broken.” Just because your life is not broken, doesn’t mean it couldn’t be better….

Today I challenge you to “break” a “good habit” and see if you can’t make it a “better habit.” Remember, the transition from good to better will not happen overnight so don’t get frustrated if you do not see immediate results.
