How To Develop An Exercise Plan

Unknown-7

AID STATION: The first step in developing a good exercise plan is to set your goal. Are you interested in gaining endurance and building your cardiovascular health or are you looking to add muscle to your frame? These are important considerations that go into building an effective exercise plan. In keeping consistent with the theme of this blog, I wanted to offer a few suggestions on how to build an effective endurance training plan.

#0. Pick your sport…running, cycling, swimming

#1. Commit to a certain time of day and length of training session.

#2. START! I cannot emphasize this enough.

#3. Take your goal and break it down into small parts. (by the yard, life is hard but by the inch, life’s a cinch!)

#4. Buy a journal to keep track of your progress.

#5. Ask someone to be your training partner.

These are the essential steps to ensuring a plan that lasts. For specific training information related to running, biking and swimming…please leave me your comments and I will reply to your question specifically!

  1. Sarah, what is your most important project over the next 3 to 6 months? I ask in the event that I or someone I know might help. I would sincerely like to know!
BTW, when you saw “mileage” do you mean running only? Or swimming, biking, XC skiing, walking, etc?
