Find Your Flow with Flexibility

Yes, you can be both intentional AND flexible at the same time…

As I wrote on Wednesday, intentionality is essential when it comes to finding your purpose. Life is traveling at warp speed and you can either watch it or participate in it. I would suggest the later, that is if you have any hope of living your life on purpose. Intentionality lends itself to effectiveness. Without a plan, you set yourself up for passivity. Passivity runs from the facts it hides in obscurity. Passivity is the quickest route to frustration, disappointment and anxiety. Passivity is the polar of opposite of intentionality…

Now that this is settled, allow me to present another side of intentionality that is equally (if not more so) important. Flexibility is the realization that plans will not always work out. Flexibility is the realization that if plan A doesn’t quite work out, then plan B is in order. But what if plan B doesn’t work either? Well, that could very easily happen and as a matter of fact, I would guess that it probably already has! Can you remember how you handled the situation? If so, this might shed light on your ability to achieve flexibility!

Let’s revisit our fitness focus revealed in Wednesday’s post on intentionality. You have made a conscious effort to drop a certain number of lbs. in the first part of 2015. You have already found that your fitness location of choice is bursting at the seams. You know that you need to run on the treadmill 3 times per week and lift weights 3 times per week. Let’s just say that on your treadmill day, there are no less than 2 people waiting in line for all 5 treadmills in your gym. Ok, what do you do…today is a cardio workout? Do you have the inner strength to practice flexibility. Do you have the inner strength to not freak out and simply look around to see if there might be other options? Cardio does not rest with a treadmill alone. If you can bring yourself to this point and truly open your eyes, you might just see that there are elliptical trainers, step mills and stationary bikes all within your reach.
