Bravery is a Choice

Bravery is a choice. Do you agree or disagree?

Bravery is a burden. Agree or disagree?

What’s the first picture that comes to mind when the word “bravery” makes its way into view? Ok, I’ll go first! No question about it, its Mel Gibson in Braveheart and Russell Crowe in Gladiator. 2 men who are willing to sacrifice their own lives for a greater good has “bravery” written all over it (as far as I’m concerned.) These 2 movies are at the top of my favorites list for a specific reason. I love the battle scenes, the fire, the weapons, the armies moving against one another. These things are NOT the primary reason for my admiration….

The one thing that made William Wallace and Maximus brave above all else was CHOICE. Both had been wronged and both were wrongly persecuted but their bravery was chosen. In the very moment when both Wallace and Maximus were robbed of their families by an act of utter cowardice, a decision had to be made. The decision is what I most admire about these men and the stories that have been created around their bravery.

Not only do I believe that bravery is a choice, but I also feel that it is tied to a sense of responsibility. We all carry responsibility which is a by-product of living in community with other human beings. Bravery is doing the small things that ultimately add up. Bravery is making a decision and seeing it through irregardless of how you feel. Bravery not only accepts responsibility but welcomes it. Bravery takes fear and flips it on its head deeming it irrelevant. You do not have to feel “brave” to fulfill your responsibilities in life. You do not have to be a superhero to chose bravery.

As I continue to build my platform by reaching more and more readers each week, I have realized that I need to add more dimensions to my message. One thing that has terrified me in the past has been online audio broadcasting, or more simply…podcasting. I know I need it, I feel like it will help but I have yet to decide or take responsibility for making it happen. THAT IS, UNTIL NOW…..

I hope you enjoy “Bo’s Bravery Building!”
